Kathie Herbst Okun has guided the financial lives of families, individuals, and business owners for more than three decades. Her practice focuses on one thing—her clients. Kathie’s passion is to educate her clients to understand and gain control over their finances and to invest wisely.

Kathie’s business success stems from her hard work and mantra of positivity. She attributes her accomplishments to the “Power of Gratitude”, and she believes in giving more value and service to clients than they expect. Kathie had a rough go of it in her early years after her life changed forever due to the death of her father when she was only 14 months old. Today she helps clients plan and be prepared for whatever life brings, helping them find ways to enjoy what they work hard to build.

Kathie attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County, studying Liberal Arts.  She also completed studies through The American College of Financial Services, where she obtained Chartered Life Underwriter (2003) and Chartered Financial Consultant (2015) designations. Kathie feels strongly that lifetime learning is key to her success. In 2012, she graduated from The Wharton School’s Aresty Institute of Executive Education Retirement Income Planning Certificate Program.

Kathie owns Okun Financial Group, a 100% woman-owned and certified firm through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). In 2016, Kathie was honored with the prestigious BlueChip Advisor of the Year Award through her then Broker-Dealer firm, Horner Townsend and Kent. In addition, she was named to the Circle of Excellence by Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS) from 2014 through 2018. In 2013, she won a BRAVA Award from Smart CEO Magazine in recognition of business success and local community leadership. In 2014, Kathie was named an Enterprising Woman of the Year by Enterprising Women Magazine.  She was also named a Five Star Wealth Manager by Baltimore Magazine in 2014, 2015 and 2019.  In 2021, she has been recognized by the Daily Record of Maryland as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women.

Kathie is a member of Women President’s Organization (WPO) and serves on their national board. She enjoys mentoring other female professionals in her industry, finding it to be rewarding to “give back.”  She also volunteers for the Maryland Alzheimer’s Association and the Casey Cares Foundation, which benefits critically ill children. Additionally, she spends time on committees for the Associated Jewish Charities. These organizations are all near and dear to Kathie’s heart.

Kathie is happily married to her husband, Harvey L. Okun, Esq., who also works with Okun Financial Group. They have a daughter in college and live in Maryland where they enjoy urban amenities, nearby beaches, and the beautiful countryside.
